Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Line Diagram & Details

Many modern refrigerators have quick water and ice dispensers. The water dispenser feature allows you to serve some freshly chilled water without opening the fridge or putting a bottle inside the fridge and waiting minutes for it to cool. Ice dispensers allow you to make fresh ice in the fridge without pouring water into an ice tray.

Both ice and water dispensers work only because they connect to your home water line. Suppose you have a Frigidaire refrigerator model with ice and water dispensers. In that case, you might be interested in understanding how water is transferred within the tubes and how to install them.

In this article, we will go through the different parts of the typical Frigidaire water line and how you can install the water line in your own Frigidaire refrigerator.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Line Components (as Seen on the Diagram)

Water Dispenser

The water dispenser is the outer part of the fridge where you serve freshly chilled water for drinking. It is a miniature version of the giant water dispenser you are used to. The only difference is that it doesn’t serve hot water. Not all models of the Frigidaire refrigerator have this part.

Ice Maker

As the name implies, the ice maker makes ice blocks in the refrigerator. It has an ice bucket underneath that collects the ice blocks. You can use the ice blocks to serve chilled drinks or in an ice pack. Typically, ice makers in Frigidaire refrigerators make about 2.5 to 3 pounds of ice every 24 hours.

Water Tank

The water reservoir or tank is an external part of some Frigidaire refrigerator models. You usually find it in the fresh food section of the refrigerator. The job of the water tank is to store freshly chilled water for the water dispenser.

When people need chilled water, they just fill their cups using the dispenser outside. The dispenser is connected to the water tank using tubes. These tubes take water from the tank to the dispenser to fill the cup outside. As soon as the water tank is depleted, more water comes in from the water line outside to fill it again so that the fridge can chill it before more people need chilled water.

Water Filter

A Frigidaire refrigerator water filter is the main reason people feel confident taking water from the water dispenser. It purifies the water from the water line before it gets to the tank.

Many fridge filters, including Frigidaire refrigerator filters, are carbon filters and have an NSF 42 certification, which means they have been tested and can remove chlorine from water. Removing chlorine from water improves the taste and smell of the water.

Dispenser Valve

The water dispenser valve is one of three valves in the water line that helps control the water flow to the water tank and, ultimately, the water dispenser. If you don’t want your water tank filling up with water, you can shut off this valve.

The dispenser valve is often marked in yellow.

Ice Maker Valve

The ice maker valve is another valve in the water line; its job is to control the water flow to the ice maker. If you aren’t interested in making ice, you can shut it off so that the ice maker doesn’t get filled with water.

Isolation Valve

The isolation valve exists to stop the flow of water in case of emergencies. If any other valves get spoilt and can’t function, you can use the isolation valve to prevent water flow to the refrigerator until you find a solution.

The isolation valve is often marked in brown.

Water Supply

The water supply is the hose that supplies water from your home to the refrigerator. You can connect your water supply line to the faucet supply in your kitchen. This way, you can be assured of getting the same water that flows in your kitchen.

Always ensure your water supply is from a clean, drinkable source. Although there is a carbon filter in the refrigerator, there is only so much it can do.

How to Install a Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Line

To install a water line in your refrigerator, you need:

  • 1/4-inch flexible water supply tubing with compression connectors
  • Small pliers
  • Bucket
  • Add-A-Tee Adapter

Follow these steps to install:

  • Locate the valve you want to connect it to in your kitchen and turn it off. Usually, the cold water line in your kitchen faucet is the best option.
  • Disconnect the faucet line from the valve using the small pliers or adjustable wrenches and connect the Add-A-tee adapter. Put a bucket under the disconnected faucet lines to collect any water draining. Next, tighten your Add-A-Tee adapter with the pliers or wrenches.
  • Reattach the faucet to the top of the Add-A-Tee adapter, and connect the refrigerator line to the side. The refrigerator line is the 1/4-inch flexible water supply tubing which you would connect to the 1/4-inch water supply fitting on the refrigerator. Tighten all loose connections with your adjustable pliers or wrenches.
